What is the name of the tiny snails used in Italian dishes?

In english they are called"winkles" and are used by the European and the Asians, I have them in Chinese places done with either hot bean paste, ginger and garlic or black bean sauce.

Most fish store will sell them or a Chinese/Asian store with fresh fish and groceries, there not expensive but a seasonal thing, in Europe they also use a very small clam like bi-value called Cockles.

What is the name of the tiny snails used in Italian dishes?
I did not use the prefix for the periwinkles as most time there known as just winkles, but your right. Report Abuse

Reply:You mean "escargot"? That's just the French word for "snail".

If you mean the actual species name of the snails people eat, a variety of different species of snails might be used.
